Purpose
This
scholarship was established by The Linda & Michael Stickney
Foundation. Michael is the Broker of NorthSteppe Realty, and
the great-great grandson of Thomas Ewing Miller. In its first
year, this scholarship fund is to commemorate Thomas Ewing
Miller’s 125th anniversary of his Presidency and membership to
the Board of Trustees to The Ohio State University.

Eligibility
Criteria
·
Applicant must have achieved sophomore status or higher at The
Ohio State University
·
Applicant must specialize (major or minor) in Real Estate,
within the Finance Department of the Fisher College of Business
at The Ohio State University
·
Applicant must have at least a 2.75 grade point average
·
Applicant must be working through college (PT or FT)

Selection
Criteria
Recipients will be chosen on the basis of the following criteria
with the following weighting:
·
40%-Extracurricular Activities (including but not limited to,
competitive activities, athletic activities, and/or
entrepreneurial activities)
·
40%-Passion for real estate (as demonstrated by personal essay)
·
10%-Community service
·
10%

Payment/Distribution
·
Two
$2,500 Scholarships shall be awarded and be paid directly to The
Ohio State University
·
Awards
may be used for any educational expenses
A
three-member selection committee shall be responsible for
reviewing eligible candidates and selecting the scholarship
recipient. The committee shall consist of the following
persons:
·
President/CEO of The Ohio State University Alumni Association,
Inc.
·
Director of the Center for Real Estate Education & Research
·
Ohio
State University Board of Trustees Member

The History of T. Ewing Miller
Born in Mt.
Vernon, Ohio, June 19, 1829, young Mr. Miller was educated at
Kenyon College. After graduation, he was engaged in mercantile,
political and real estate pursuits. Through these avenues of
activity, he contributed in large measure to the development,
welfare, and building of the city of Columbus. Most noted of his services to the community, was his
Presidency and membership to the
Ohio State
University Board of Trustees
from 1878-1885. Other prominent accomplishments are:
· Served many
years on the State Executive Committee for the Ohio Republican
Party.

United States Consul at Bordeaux,
France.

father/Director of the Ohio Archeological and Historical
Society
· 1874

President of
the Columbus
City Board of Trade.

of the Columbus Humane Society

President/Director of the Scioto Valley Railroad Company.

wholesale dry goods merchant, as member/owner of the firm of
Miller, Green & Joyce.

Builder/Director of the Columbus, Cincinnati, & Midland
Railroad
· President/Director of the Commercial National Bank for 25 years.
· Was a well
respected business man and merchant who won the adoration of
many, including United States’ Presidents Rutherford B. Hayes,
James Garfield, and Franklin Pierce.
